Explain your routines once
A task says what needs doing. A routine explains how your family does it: what goes in the lunchbox, when the children come downstairs and what should be ready before leaving.
From a voice note to clear steps
Open Routines > New routine. Type your explanation or record it if your browser supports microphone recording. Review the transcript before generating steps. You can also start entirely by hand.
Choose Dutch or English as the source language. Dutch input also gets an English version for the au pair. For another language, write the instructions yourself; the app controls remain in Dutch or English.
The generated guide is a proposal. Check the order, times, responsibilities and missing information. Opairly shows questions when something needs clarifying. Add the answers to the routine.
Different days, one routine
Choose the days the routine applies to. Individual steps can have their own days. Lunch on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday can sit in the same morning routine as fruit for a short Wednesday.
For example:
- Lay out clothes for both children.
- Prepare breakfast while a parent plays with the children.
- Pack the school bags: sandwiches, fruit and water on long days; fruit on Wednesday.
- Help with shoes, coats and bags so everyone is ready to leave.
Review both the source and English text. They remain separately editable. When you change the source, review the English version again too.
Add photos
Save a draft first. You can then add a photo to a step, such as the right cup, a packed school bag or where an item belongs. Photos stay within the household and become visible to the au pair with the published routine.
Publish and use it today
Saving a draft keeps it private to the family. Preview it and publish when it is ready. The au pair sees the published version; later draft edits do not change it.
Today shows published routines and the steps for that day. You can tick and untick steps together. This is a shared checklist, not time tracking. A tick does not change task hours or independently prove who did something.
Use Tasks and the Calendar for planned work and hours. Use Prepare together to discuss expectations before deciding on a match.
