Baby journal

Know how your baby's day has been. Track bottles, diapers, sleep, medicines and baths together, then share a handover with daycare.

With a baby in your arms, logging a moment should be quick. In the Baby journal, parents and au pairs share when a bottle was given, how much the baby drank and how the rest of the day went. Everyone in your household uses the same journal, in Dutch or English.

Opening the baby journal and choosing children

Open Dashboard > Baby journal and choose the child at the top. Children under two appear by default based on their date of birth. A parent can use Children in this journal to include or exclude any child. Older children can have a journal too. If a child has no date of birth, select them yourself.

The selection applies to the whole household. Removing a child from the baby journal keeps their profile and previous entries. If your household has no children yet, use Add child first.

Quickly logging bottles, diapers and baths

The large buttons under Log a moment are designed for your phone. On Today, the time defaults to now.

  • Bottle: enter how much your baby actually drank, in millilitres, and save.
  • Wet, Dirty or Both: tap the right diaper type. A mixed diaper counts as one diaper and towards both types.
  • Bath: record a bath.
  • Worth remembering: add a separate care note.

You can also add an earlier moment. Choose the correct day and adjust the time as needed. You can include a note with an entry.

Tracking sleep with start and stop

Tap Start sleep in the baby journal when your child falls asleep. You see Still sleeping, the start time and elapsed time. Tap Awake to finish the sleep.

The sleep stays saved when you close the app. Your partner or au pair can stop the same sleep from their own device. Each child can have one sleep running at a time.

Forgot to start or stop? Use Add an earlier sleep with the clock button next to the start button, or Adjust times for a running sleep. Enter the start and end dates and times. Use Still sleeping to indicate that a sleep is ongoing. Opairly does not allow overlapping sleeps; check the existing times if you see that message.

Sleep across midnight and daily totals

The baby journal shows sleep duration for each day. A sleep crossing midnight contributes the relevant portion to each day. For example, 23:00 to 02:00 counts as one hour on the first day and two hours on the next. The timeline shows the full sleep with its start, end and total duration.

All dates and times use the household's time zone. A running sleep counts up to the current moment.

Recording medicines given

Choose Medicine in the baby journal. Enter the name and the actual amount given, including the unit, check the time and add a note if needed. Enter the amount yourself each time.

A parent must first consent to storing and sharing the child's medical information. If consent is missing, a parent can give it when recording a medicine. The au pair can then log medicines too. The medicine name, amount given and accompanying note are stored encrypted and are available within your household.

The baby journal records what was given. It does not calculate doses or send medicine reminders. Manage your child's standing medical information in Emergency Information.

Reviewing the day and correcting a mistake

The top of the baby journal shows the last bottle, diaper, bath and medicine. Each day's summary shows the number of bottles and total milk consumed, diaper counts and sleep duration. The timeline lists the moments with the caregiver who recorded them.

Use the date buttons to look back. Tap an entry to correct its details or remove it. If someone else has changed the same entry in the meantime, refresh the journal before continuing.

Sharing a handover with daycare

Choose the child and day in the baby journal, then open Handover. The text summary includes daily totals, the latest care moments and the timeline. Review the text first: it also includes any medicines and notes.

Use Copy to paste the summary into a message. Use Share to open your phone's share menu if your browser supports it. This lets you update daycare, a babysitter or another caregiver. The recipient receives the shared text; it does not grant access to the journal or create an automatic daycare connection.

Using the journal together and staying connected

Parents and au pairs in the same household can log and review care moments. The baby journal refreshes every 30 seconds and when you return to the app. You can also tap Refresh journal yourself.

You need an internet connection to save entries and see the latest journal. If saving fails, use Try again; the original time is kept and retrying does not create a duplicate entry.
