Start with a conversation
After creating your household, Getting started opens. It works whether you already have an au pair or are still considering one. Return through Home or the family menu. The existing manual setup remains available through Prefer to fill things in myself.
Tell your story
Start with a morning: when the children wake up, who makes breakfast and who takes them to school. Type or record up to three minutes per message. When you stop recording, Cloudflare automatically converts it to text. If this fails, you can retry the conversion. Check the text before sending it. You give permission for Anthropic to process the conversation. Opairly does not store audio recordings.
The conversation builds six topics: week and times, tasks, house agreements, what you offer, practising together and free time. It asks a focused follow-up about missing details. Unknown times and responsibilities should stay open. A child's wake-up time is not automatically the au pair's working start time.
The follow-up question appears as soon as it is ready, and you can start typing or recording your next answer. While Your overview and suggestions are still being updated… is shown, the app is processing the rest. Only the fully validated result is saved. Collapse earlier messages to keep your latest answer close at hand.
Come back later
Text, overview, suggestions and interview notes are saved along the way for the parents in the same household. Check the save status before leaving. If something fails, your text stays in place. If another parent saved changes, their version is not overwritten: copy your notes before loading the latest version.
The conversation stays private. Candidates and the current au pair cannot read these notes. Clear conversation and interview notes gives you a fresh start; tasks, rules and shared packages already created stay in place.
Turn suggestions into real agreements
Open Suggestions to review recurring tasks and house rules. They are in English for your au pair. Check the days, times, quantities and responsibilities. Edit or remove suggestions as needed. Only selected suggestions you confirm you have reviewed are added to shared tasks and house rules. The calendar uses the new recurring tasks; a separate daily plan is not created automatically.
Existing tasks and rules stay in place. Applying the same suggestion again does not add a duplicate. Review an existing agreement with the same name but different details first. Also compare similar agreements with different names yourself.
Prepare your first interview
Prepare an interview includes twelve practical questions about experience, early mornings, cooking, cycling, privacy and free time. Questions can be shown in English. Relevant questions include context from your own family overview.
Create an interview for each candidate using a first name or your own label. Track what you discussed, what to return to and what is not relevant. Notes and checkmarks belong to the parents; they are not the candidate's answers or agreement. Keep up to twelve interviews and remove old notes when needed.
The interview questions are also available without an account. Save personal notes and the conversation within your trial or subscription.
Share after the first conversation clicks
Open Preparation and choose Use existing information → Use the conversation overview. Only filled-in topics and time blocks with both a start and end are added as unselected copies. Your conversation and candidate notes do not go with them.
Review and translate the candidate version before publishing it. Then share a personal link without requiring the candidate to create an account. After choosing together, continue with the arrival checklist and routines.
