Tasks

Create task templates with recurrence, categories, and child assignments.

Tasks are the core building block of your au pair's schedule. Family members create task templates that automatically generate daily assignments based on recurrence rules.

Creating a task

Go to Tasks in the dashboard and click + Add task. For each task, you can set:

  • Title — a short description (e.g., "Bring kids to school")
  • Category — childcare, household, cooking, education, or other
  • Recurrence — how often the task repeats (see below)
  • Time — optional scheduled time of day
  • Duration — estimated minutes per task
  • Children — which children this task relates to
  • Rule reminders — linked house rules shown as reminders

Recurrence patterns

Each task has a recurrence type that determines when it appears in the calendar:

  • Daily — every day of the week
  • Weekdays — Monday through Friday
  • Specific days — select individual days (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
  • Once — a one-time event, shown in the Events tab

Recurring tasks generate assignments automatically overnight. The dashboard also catches up missed days on load.

Categories

Tasks are organized into five categories, each with its own color and icon:

  • Childcare — caring for children
  • Household — cleaning, laundry, and other chores
  • Cooking — meal preparation and kitchen duties
  • Education — homework help and learning activities
  • Other — anything else

Categories also determine which house rules are automatically linked as reminders.

Quick start with templates

Starting from scratch? Click Start with suggestions to load a set of common au pair tasks. These templates cover typical childcare and household routines for Dutch au pair families. You can edit or remove them afterwards.

One-time events

The Events tab shows tasks with the "once" recurrence type. These are useful for appointments, outings, or special occasions. You can create one-time events from the Tasks page or directly from the calendar.

Completing tasks

Both family members and au pairs can mark task assignments as complete on the dashboard home or in the calendar. Completed tasks show a checkmark and are visually dimmed.
