Calendar Sync
Calendar sync lets host families view the au pair's task schedule in their own calendar app. The schedule appears as a separate calendar alongside your personal events, so you never have to check two places.
How it works
Opairly generates a private calendar link (iCal feed) for your household. When you subscribe to this link in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook, all scheduled tasks appear automatically. Your calendar app checks the link periodically and updates itself.
Setting up
- Go to Settings and scroll to the Calendar sync section
- Click Generate calendar link
- Copy the URL
Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar
- On the left, click + next to "Other calendars"
- Select From URL
- Paste the link and click Add calendar
Apple Calendar
- Open the Calendar app on your Mac or iPhone
- Go to File > New Calendar Subscription (Mac) or Settings > Calendar > Accounts > Add Account > Other > Add Subscribed Calendar (iPhone)
- Paste the link and confirm
Outlook
- Open Outlook Calendar
- Click Add calendar > Subscribe from web
- Paste the link, give it a name, and click Import
What you see
Tasks appear as calendar events with their scheduled time and duration. Tasks without a specific time show as all-day events.
Each event includes:
- Title — the task name
- Time — start and end based on scheduled time and estimated duration
- Description — task category and which children are involved
Completed tasks are marked with a checkmark in the title. Skipped tasks are hidden.
Refreshing
Your calendar app polls the link automatically. Google Calendar updates roughly every 12-24 hours. Apple Calendar updates more frequently. You don't need to do anything.
The feed always shows the past week plus the next four weeks. As time passes, the window rolls forward automatically.
Regenerating the link
If you want to revoke access (for example, after an au pair leaves), click Regenerate link in settings. The old link stops working immediately. Anyone who was subscribed will need the new link.
Who can use this
Calendar sync is available to host families only. The au pair should use the Opairly app directly for the most up-to-date schedule with task details, completions, and rule reminders.
