Reference Letters

Write, share, and export professional reference letters for your au pair.

Reference letters let families write a professional reference for their au pair. The au pair can accept the reference, share it via a public link, and download it as a PDF.

How references work

The reference process has three stages:

  1. Draft — the family writes and saves a reference (can be edited)
  2. Published — the family sends the reference to the au pair for review
  3. Accepted or Declined — the au pair decides whether to accept it

This flow ensures both parties agree on the content before it can be shared.

Writing a reference (family)

Click Write reference to start. The form includes:

  • Au pair — select which au pair the reference is for
  • Period — start and end dates of the au pair's stay
  • Strengths — what the au pair excelled at
  • Experience — description of day-to-day responsibilities
  • Recommendation — your recommendation for future families
  • Additional notes — optional extra comments

You can save as a draft to finish later, or publish immediately to send it to the au pair.

Accepting a reference (au pair)

When a family publishes a reference, it appears under Pending acceptance in the au pair's view. You can read the full reference and choose to:

  • Accept — the reference becomes final and can be shared
  • Decline — if you disagree with the content

Sharing and exporting

After accepting a reference, au pairs can:

  • Enable public link — generates a unique shareable URL that anyone can view
  • Regenerate link — invalidate the current link and create a new one
  • Download PDF — export as a professionally formatted A4 letter

The public reference page shows the full letter with the household name and reviewer, without requiring a login.
